Swift is delighted to launch our Gender Equality Network at Swift, under our existing gender work stream headed by Stella Lim. Gender equality has been a key focus of our work in diversity, equity and inclusion.
The network will identify critical issues and prioritise actions internally that will help us to achieve our vision for everyone to work in a safe, equal and inclusive environment, have equal access to resources and opportunities and be treated with dignity, respect and fairness.
This work is more necessary than ever given that the pandemic has had the greatest impact on women, who represent 39% of the global workforce, but have suffered 54% of the job losses (as of May 2020). Globally, women are over-represented in low-paid and insecure sectors, which were seriously affected by the pandemic, further exacerbating existing inequalities and widening the gender equality gap.
As an organisation, Swift can play a valuable role in advocating for gender equality in our industry through concrete actions. We can take practical steps to level the workplace for women and men, allowing equal and fair access to these opportunities. Internally, Swift will continue to recognise our people for their individual abilities, experiences and skills. If equality is the end goal, equity is the means to get there.
