Consulting Services in action

Rationalising a complex infrastructure

The National Australia Bank (NAB) needed to replace its existing SWIFT solution within 12 months to avoid the burden of a substantial upgrade to its legacy system. SWIFT’s briefing was to design a solution meeting NAB’s technical criteria and to interpret, simplify and migrate around 2,000 routing rules into the new solution.

Working with NAB’s architects, our consultants delivered a resilient industry-standard solution based on Alliance Access integration Platform. We also provided in-house training to operational staff around the world.

SWIFT partnered with NAB and demonstrated the art of what is possible when skilled professionals work collaboratively in an agile manner.

Understanding the impact of the SWIFT Standards Release

Zürcher Kantonalbank (the Cantonal Bank of Zurich) wanted to manage the impact of the annual Standards Release for FIN messages more effectively. The bank asked SWIFT Consulting Services to provide a report on the forthcoming Standards Release, as well as mapping the changes to the bank’s actual message usage.

The report produced by our consultants detailed how different change requests would apply to specific MT5xx securities messages, enabling the bank to ensure the right resources were in place to complete the changes in the bank’s systems. The impact level of each individual change was also detailed.

We saved time and allocated resources more efficiently.

Enabling expansion

In light of strategic plans to develop and expand, the CC&G organisation (Cassa di Compensazione e Garanzia) wanted to increase the flexibility of its existing systems, as well as developing the skills of the in-house team.

Following an in-depth proposal, our Consulting Services team was appointed to design and install a new system which would give CC&G the flexibility to develop in line with the company’s strategic plans. The solution incorporated an integration solution for back-office systems, as well as integration with TARGET2 and on-the-job training for a new in-house team.

Following the implementation, CC&G has seen numerous benefits, including significant cost savings, increased flexibility and risk mitigation.

The flexibility and co-operation of the SWIFT team was undoubtedly what made this work.

— Alessandro Micocci, Chief Information Officer at CC&G

Increasing automation and flexibility with Alliance Lite2

Bremer Bank had previously interfaced with SWIFT using a third-party service provider – but this involved time-consuming manual entry processes which took around three hours every day.

A project to change the bank’s core payment system presented an opportunity for change. In order to increase automation and straight-through processing, the bank adopted Alliance Lite2 [Link]. SWIFT provided help throughout the project, from designing a tailored solution to customising and testing the interface.

As well as automating a previously manual process, Alliance Lite2 has also given the bank the flexibility needed for future growth.

Moving to Alliance Lite2 was not complex. Final preparation occurred over a weekend and we were live the following Monday.
