Swift’s Head of Banking and Payments underscores the importance of the programme in reinforcing the security of global banking
Harry Newman, Swift’s Head of Banking and Payments, spoke at the 3rd Annual Financial Services Cyber Security Summit in London on Wednesday 13 July – continuing Swift’s engagement with the global financial community on cyber security matters.
At the event Newman stressed that while Swift customers have individual responsibility for the security of their environments, Swift is fully committed to deploying its knowledge and expertise to help customers in the fight against cyber-attacks. Newman said: “Swift has a key play in reinforcing and safeguarding the security of the global banking ecosystem; our new Customer Security Programme is dedicated to reinforce and evolve the security of global banking, consolidating and building upon existing Swift and industry efforts.”

During the panel debate Newman further reiterated: “Security has long been part of Swift’s DNA, and managing the ongoing cyber threat landscape is identified as one of the industry’s critical challenges under our 2020 strategy.”
Hosted by City & Financial Global, the event brought together senior representatives from a range of global banks, market infrastructures and governments to examine the cyber security issues currently facing financial institutions, with particular emphasis on cyber resilience and cyber security culture.
