Swift Institute at Sibos - Bridging the gap between academia and financial services

Research grant winners and experts extend understanding of current practice and future needs for the global financial industry.

The independent research arm of Swift, Swift Institute, returns to Sibos bringing some of the keenest thought leaders from academia (and industry) to share insights and the latest research on topics impacting the global financial industry.

Swift Institute at Sibos

What’s on the agenda?

Research grant winners will present their insights on the future generation of PMIs, the future of cross-border payments, a comparison of fintech between China and the West, instant payments and open banking.  Experts will also discuss technology-based topics including quantum computing, AI, cryptocurrencies, blockchain, open banking, instant payments and the ever present cyber security.

Regulation underpins everything we do in the financial world, so this will be part of our daily Lunch & Learn series of lectures.  And in this ever changing world, we need to know how to best lead our businesses in order to remain relevant in the future.  A management expert will discuss how to lead in a tech and millennial age, and you will also hear from a variety of experts who will explore the commercial benefits that diversity and inclusion offer.

The Student Challenge

For the third year running, the Swift Institute will host the final of the Student Challenge, which has been running throughout 2018 across Australia.  We challenged university students to come up with solutions to a highly relevant topic.  How do we keep personal data safe in an open banking environment?
We received submissions from universities across the country, and have selected eight to  present their ideas at Sibos.  An expert panel of judges will vote for their favourite, and Sibos delegates will also be able to vote through digi-voting. The winner will be announced at Sibos and receive a grant prize of AUD 30,000. All finalists will benefit from sharing their ideas with the global financial industry.

The Sibos Quiz

We will also be hosting the fourth edition of the Sibos Quiz – A Question of Finance. This is a must-see, informative and highly competitive event featuring two teams of banking and academic experts answering questions on their areas of financial expertise, in addition to areas in which they may be less knowledgeable. This session also serves as the Swift Institute’s cocktail reception, so you are welcome to come along for a drink, and be educated (and entertained) by our contestants.

We look forward to seeing you at Sibos!
