Education and empowerment: How Swift supports communities across the world

Education and empowerment: How Swift supports communities across the world

Company Information,
9 January 2020 | 4 min read

We believe everyone should have access to the skills and opportunities they need to be in charge of their lives, build healthy and sustainable communities, and improve outcomes for the next generation.

As a global organisation, with customers in over 200 countries, our corporate social responsibility programme sits alongside our business strategy in every region in which we work.

Social impact on a global scale

In 2019, we have been proud to support over 150 exceptional organisations that share our vision of a world where everyone has access to the skills, education and resources they need to thrive. As in previous years, we chose to work with organisations that:

  • have a global reach
  • educate and empower those who need it most, and
  • help to develop local communities while protecting our environment

Here are a few highlights from the many inspiring projects we supported in 2019:

Teach for All Network

The Teach for All Network knows that when millions of children aren’t learning, it affects us all - perpetuating poverty, dividing societies, and weakening economies. Working with local partners, they recruit and train teachers for remote or rural schools, ensuring access to quality education for some of the most underprivileged communities on the planet and helping children fulfil their potential. In 2019, Swift supported the Network’s Teach for Philippines programme.

Fundación Capital

Over the last 10 years, Fundación Capital has helped more than six million people across 18 countries build more sustainable futures for themselves and their families. Partnering with governments and the private sector, Fundación Capital uses modern technologies to design and deliver direct interventions that increase the economic prospects of millions of people living in social vulnerability. In 2019, Swift supported the development of a financial education mobile app that will enhance the lives of over a million households in Mozambique.

Mann Deshi Foundation

The Mann Deshi Foundation in India aims to empower female entrepreneurs and their communities by providing access to funding and helping them manage their own finances. Their teams on the ground teach essential business skills to actively foster supportive networks that address fundamental developmental issues, and help women and their communities flourish.

Honeypot Children’s Charity

There are an estimated 800,000 young carers in the UK, providing daily, round-the-clock care and emotional support for a parent, grandparent or sibling. These responsibilities make it difficult to manage schoolwork, and young carers often miss out on many childhood activities. The Honeypot Children’s Charity is the only charity dedicated to supporting young carers in the UK, providing respite and giving them a break from responsibilities at home.

Green Schools Ireland

Green Schools Ireland is the leading environmental management and award programme, working with primary and secondary schools across Ireland. Green Schools teaches practical lessons on caring for local environments to school children. This is instrumental in equipping the next generation with the knowledge to protect our planet.

Prey Veng, Cambodia

In November last year, a group of 30 Swift staff from our Singapore and Hong Kong offices, along with family members, travelled to Prey Veng, Cambodia. Here, they helped build new houses, toilets and wells for disadvantaged families in the rural community. The staff funded the trip themselves and the costs of building the homes and infrastructure were covered by Swift.

The success of our CSR efforts in 2019 was due to a real team effort, so a big thank you to all involved, including the dedicated teams at our supported charities and not-for-profit organisations, as well as our member financial organisations that make this work possible.

We are looking forward to working with dynamic and progressive organisations again this year to help create a better future for thousands of communities across the world.
