Looking back at ARC 2019, Accra, Ghana

SWIFT’s 26th African Regional Conference (ARC) was the largest yet, gathering more than 600 participants from 55 countries in Accra, Ghana, to talk about how Africa’s financial industry is evolving.

His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana, opened ARC 2019 and explained the steps being taken by Ghana to enable the digital economy.

We also hosted an incredible line-up of speakers including Ade Ayeyemi, Group CEO of Ecobank, Moono Mupotola, Director of Regional Integration at the African Development Bank,

Dr Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and Dr. Kasirim Nwuke, Chief of the Green Economy, Technologies and Innovation Section at the United National Economic Commission for Africa.

Discussions over three days focused on the role of technology in driving growth in Africa, the transformation of the continent’s economies, and how to address some of the critical challenges facing Africa’s financial sector including cybercrime and financial crime compliance.

"The African financial industry is looking for ways to collaborate across borders in order to become a bigger and stronger player on the global stage. Bringing together the many markets in Africa requires cooperation between governments, regulators and the private sector to develop common solutions to our common challenges.

At Ecobank, we are at the forefront of promoting trade in Africa and believe that events such as the SWIFT African Regional Conference are critical platforms to facilitate this."

– Ade Ayeyemi, CEO, Ecobank
