Nicolas Stuckens

Head of Sanctions Compliance Initiatives, Swift

Nicolas Stuckens is leading the ISO 20022 adoption and data quality programme within Swift, a newly created role to drive ISO 20022 community adoption, quality usage of ISO messaging and related Swift services.

Nicolas has a strong background in Payments and Financial Crime Compliance, having led the development of screening initiatives within Swift for nearly 15 years. His focus on compliance led him to explore how sanctions compliance-related friction can be reduced to support the move to instant payments. In 2021 he published “Guiding principles for screening ISO 20022 payments” in collaboration with leading industry banks, providing insights for financial institutions to leverage the new syntax for efficient and effective screening – a paper that was subsequently endorsed by the Payment Market Practice Group and The Wolfsberg Group.

Nicolas joined Swift in 1997 and held several positions in the area of Reference Data, Pricing and Information Services. He holds a degree of Commercial Engineer from the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium.
