Jan Pilbauer was appointed the CEO of BankservAfrica as of 1 October 2020. Jan joined BankservAfrica in late 2018 as BankservAfrica’s Chief Payments Officer and took on the role as Acting Deputy CEO in mid-2020. He has been responsible for leading BankservAfrica’s payments modernisation programme that will anchor BankservAfrica’s role in the future payments system. Presently, the focus is on building a modern payments platform together with the Payments Association of South Africa and the banking industry.

Prior to joining BankservAfrica, Jan was the Executive Director at Payments Canada where he played a key role in the ongoing modernisation of the Canadian core clearing and settlement payments infrastructure. He has also held senior positions at various central banks, including the Bank of Canada, Czech National Bank and led an international R&D programme related to the security of banknotes under the auspices of the Bank of International Settlements.
