Governor, Bank of Ghana

Dr. Ernest Addison was appointed as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and the Chairman of the Bank of Ghana Board on April 3, 2017. Prior to this appointment, he worked for the African Development Bank as the Lead Regional Economist for the Southern Africa Region. In that capacity, he led the dialogue missions in the countries of that region including Mauritius, Angola and Sao Tome off the coast of West Africa. He supported the technical teams in preparation of new Strategies as well as CPI Assessment and country information notes. Dr. Addison joined the Bank of Ghana in 1996, during which time he served on a number of committees including the Open Market Operations and Money Market Auction Committees as well as secretary to the Financial Programme Implementation Committee and the Financial Policies Committee. In 2000 and on secondment, he was appointed the Chief Economist at the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI) and returned to the Bank of Ghana in 2002 where he served for nearly a decade as the Bank’s Director of Research. Dr. Addison has qualifications in Economics from the University of Ghana, Cambridge University, U.K. and McGill University, Montreal Canada, with specialization in Monetary Economics, Economic Development and International Politics.
