Opening Plenary – Turkey on the global stage

Turkey has big ambitions, not least its aim to be one of the world’s 10 largest economies by 2023, when Turkey will celebrate a century as a republic. To achieve these goals, there are some significant hurdles that must be overcome, but the industry is taking positive steps to do so, such as revamping the capital markets as part of the drive to make the country more attractive to international investors. Related to this is Turkey’s vision to establish Istanbul as an international financial centre. What is the roadmap to the IFC and what competitive advantage does it have over other centres, such as Moscow or Dubai? How will the financial market infrastructures evolve?

Panellists:

  • Hakan Ates, CEO, Denizbank
  • H.E. Mr Murat Çetinkaya, Deputy Governor, Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yakup Ergincan, CEO & Board Member, MKK

Plenary Session – Istanbul as a Financial Centre: building tomorrow’s payments hub

A core component of Turkey’s plans for Istanbul as an international financial centre will be the development of a world class payments infrastructure to support economic growth in Turkey and the region. An efficient and secure system that adheres to international guidelines, such as CPSS-Iosco from the Bank for International Settlements, will offer a competitive advantage to the country, but what are the challenges involved in developing a system? What are the Central Bank’s plans for the country’s payments infrastructure?

Panellists:

  • Dr. Cihan Aktas, Executive Director – Payment Systems Department, Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey
  • Ibrahim Erkmen, Senior Manager – Payments & Cash Management, HSBC
  • Elçin Mustafa Güven, Business Development Vice President, Garanti Bank
  • Javier Pérez-Tasso, Chief Marketing Officer, SWIFT

Plenary Session – The evolution of Turkish Securities Markets

Last year, Turkey revamped its capital markets as part of the drive to strengthen the economy and to attract more foreign investors to the market. This panel will look at the impact of this on the country’s securities markets so far and ask what role market infrastructures play in supporting this ambition. Is this delivering more international investment into Turkish capital markets? How are the securities market infrastructures developing and are there any gaps?

Panellists:

  • Mustafa Baltacı, Senior Advisor, Borsa İstanbul
  • Dr. Orcan Çörtük, Executive Vice President, MKK
  • Türkü Karan, Head of Product Strategy, TEB Securities Services

Plenary Session – Corporate Banking Today and Tomorrow
Presentation: SWIFT for Corporates, Onur Ozan.

Panel discussion:
Technology is a reducing differentiator with corporate customers. Today, service levels and ease of doing business are the key drivers for bank selection.  With this in mind, how many banks truly look across business lines to offer a consistent solution-based approach rather than a “bespoke lock in service”? And is this what a corporate wants to pay for and use? How do you overcome the technology question (fixed, mobile, cloud et cetera) and focus your competitive advantage on services? What are the key challenges to address in this multi-networked, multi-enabled smart technology world?

Panellists:

  • Müge Artuk, Budget and Finance Manager, Toyota
  • Sinem Macunlar, Treasury Manager, Ravago
  • Onur Ozan, Senior Account Director, SWIFT
