Developments on Chinese Banking Supervision and Regulation

Institutions not up to speed on the latest compliance and regulatory developments as they relate to their company activities face greater corporate and financial risks than ever before. Yet the interpretation of what regulation affects who and how is still evolving and there still remains a dangerous lack of understanding and investment to ensure your business is fully compliant from counterparty risk to reporting and business activity risk. This session allows you to explore China's policies and their effect on both the domestic as well as global stage, and have your questions answered by regulatory experts to ensure you are fully equipped with the right information.

Internationalisation of the RMB:  Views from Different Perspectives

The internationalisation of the Chinese RMB is proceeding at a measured pace, accompanied with a series of reforms designed to increase its use in international trade and investment.  In this session, panelists will examine and share thoughts on this topic.  How will China’s economic slowdown and currency volatility impact the internationalisation of the RMB and capital account opening?
What does the inclusion of the RMB into the IMF’s SDR basket mean in terms of asset allocation? What is the RMB’s role as a trade, investment, and reserve currency?  How has the establishment of CIPS become an important milestone in propelling RMB internationalisation?  Does replacing the convoluted system for clearing and settling RMB payments with a streamlined platform promote the greater use of the currency?

The Evolution of the Digital Finance Landscape in China

Over the past few years, digital finance has become an increasingly significant global phenomenon. An influx of a variety of new entrants such as internet companies, digital-finance operators, such as peer-to-peer networks, crowdfunding sites, and infrastructure vendors have emerged.  This session will examine how various factors have contributed to this rapid development, including technological innovation, increasing use of digital devices and changing consumer behaviour, and the policy objective of the Chinese government to enhance financial inclusion via digital finance to support China’s overall economic growth and encourage greater innovation strategies.

Journey down the Silk Road:  Outlook for China’s Outward FDI

2015 marked another significant milestone in China’s outward FDI. The Chinese Government expects to announce that outbound investment has surpassed inbound investment, thus making it an economy with a net capital outflow.  Driven by the ‘Silk Road  Economic Belt’ and ‘21st Century Maritime Silk Road’ policy, also known as the ‘One Belt, One Road’ Initiative, a sharp rise is also expected in infrastructure investment in 2016.  Chinese companies are well-positioned to expand their world-wide investment journey.

China’s Place in the Global Supply Chain: Implications for Banks and Corporations

Rising price pressures, volatile input costs, and intense competition in neighbouring Asia Pacific regions have forced manufacturers to rethink their supply chain strategy and long-term growth strategies.   Better visibility into supply chain operations are crucial for corporates in order to achieve better efficiency gains, creating more resilient and focused supply chains that can thrive amid heightened uncertainty and complexity.  This session will examine closely the evolution corporates are facing, as well as the role of banks in offering optimal financing opportunities for all stages of the corporate supply chain.
