Opening plenary: Developments in the Russian payments and financial system

The development of the National Payments System remains the main focus of the Russian SWIFT community: what are the top priorities and latest improvements made by Bank of Russia in this area? What are the views of Russian banks on their national payments system? What are the priorities for the banks and are these being catered for? Also, how is Russian financial market regulation driving and contributing to the development of the payments system? SWIFT has significant experience in the development of payment systems and has recently been appointed to build Australia’s real-time payments system. What is SWIFT’s strategy in the payments area and what trends does SWIFT observe in the payments markets in other countries and regions? How does all of this compare to what is being done in Russia?

Challenges and solutions in anti-money-laundering and combatting financial crime

What keeps global heads of compliance at major Russian and International financial institutions awake at night? With the focus on financial crime compliance greater than ever, the profile of the compliance function has never been higher. Does increased visibility and authority make the compliance job harder or easier? Is there enough understanding about compliance challenges and what they mean in other areas of the business? After record levels of investment in compliance, are monitoring capabilities up to scratch, or are there still gaps to be filled? What is emerging as best practice in terms of technology solutions for compliance? And critically, how are leading banks – large or small - balancing the need to meet world-class standards of compliance while also maintaining customer relationships, innovating and exploiting new business opportunities?

  • Alexander Gontarenko, Head of Legal Department, Home Credit Bank

Adopting ISO 20022: Connecting the dots

ISO 20022 is the default choice of messaging standard for MIs around the world: payments and securities, international and domestic. Russia is no exception to this rule. The emerging challenge for the industry is to ensure that the benefits of the standard - interoperability and cost and risk reduction - are not diluted by fragmentation; that the standard is implemented as much as possible in the same way everywhere. With initiatives covering payments and cash management (both bank to bank and bank to corporate), and securities already using or committed to use ISO 20022 in Russia, we have gathered leading experts to discuss, in this interactive session, the optimal pace of adoption in Russia.

  • Georgiy Chirkov, Head of Section eBanking Product Development, Unicredit
  • Sergey Putyatinskiy, CIO, National Settlement Depository
  • Elena Solovyeva, Global Head of Standards, ROSSWIFT
