Multilingual swift.com

Published on 23 December 2008
Launched on 21 December 2008, the new multilingual swift.com makes it easy for customers whose primary language is not English to read the content of our website in their own language. Most of the web content, including factsheets and training catalogue, is now available in Spanish, French and simplified Chinese, in addition to English. There are, however, some areas of swift.com which are provided in English only and others which still use an automatic translation tool. This page highlights these particulars as well as some other details which you should be aware of.

Switching between languages

Switching between languages is performed by selecting the flag icons at the top of every web page. Selecting an icon instantly displays the page in the appropriate language. If you view pages in French, your web browser remembers your selection and automatically displays the French language version of the SWIFT website the next time you visit.

Exceptions

Some areas of the website are not translated and are provided in English only. These include applications such as online ordering and the User Handbook, PDF documents, legal pages, the press room, the sibos section, and any archived pages. The automatic translation tool previously used on a specific section of swift.com will continue to be used to translate Knowledge Base tips, supporting all three languages.

Localised websites

Because Japan is a country with a very high number of internet users, it was important to offer a website in the Japanese language and customise the corporate information to suit the Japanese audience. The local Japanese website is a fully customised site with a selection of content translated into Japanese. SWIFT will also provide a website in Korean. The new Korean website will be launched to coincide with the opening of the SWIFT office in Seoul in early 2009. Both sites focus on providing information relevant to the local community.

More details about the multilingual site can be found in tip 2184825 of the knowledge base.
