Fallback Connectivity TestingUpdated on 11 July 2006 To help customers test the correct functioning of their fallback connectivity, SWIFT implemented a set of measures and tools, which are adapted to each of the SWIFTNet connectivity packs. | Connectivity options | Responsible | Interval | | Dial-up | Customer | Every month | | Dual-I – ISDN/PSTN line | Customer | Every month | | Dual-I – leased line | SWIFT | Continuous availability monitoring | | Dual-P – both leased lines | SWIFT | Continuous availability monitoring | | Single-P (only in a multi-line configuration) | SWIFT | Continuous availability monitoring |
This table shows the connectivity options to SIPN, the responsibility for testing, and the interval for testing. Standard featuresThe SWIFTNet connectivity packs have been designed to offer appropriate fallback mechanisms as part of the standard offering. For example, a Dual-I configuration has a built-in fallback connection that uses a dial-up line (ISDN or PSTN) to connect to alternative POPs (Points of Presence), when the primary leased line connection is not available. Fallback Connectivity Testing at installation timeAll connectivity options are resilient by design and are fully tested at installation time. Test command for customers with Dial-Up line and Dual-IThe swiftnet dialtest command allows customers to dial all numbers provisioned in the VPN device. This command will dial all provisioned numbers one after the other, and it will generate a report about the status of each telephone number, including the providers of the telephone number. Customers are recommended to test the telephone numbers on a regular basis. For more information about this feature, see tip 57118 of the Knowledge base. Dual-P configurationsAll operational Dual-P connectivity packs are continuously monitored by SWIFT. Also, SWIFT performs periodic tests of bandwidth during Allowable Downtime Windows (ADWs) to ensure that the configuration remains correct and operational. Note about line resilience for Dual-P customers: SWIFT has designed its connectivity packs to provide high levels of resilience and protection against single points of failure. However, SWIFT cannot guarantee such protection for elements that are outside of its direct control. In particular, for Dual-P configurations, customers must take specific actions to guarantee the diversification of the two leased lines to their Network Partner(s) POPs. It is the customer’s responsibility to: - specify to their chosen Network Partner(s) that diversification of the leased lines is required;
- verify with their chosen Network Partner(s) that diversification of the POPs is implemented.
