To ensure well-balanced systems, we defined connectivity packs that combine throughput and resilience factors. A connectivity pack is a combination of an access line (local loop), router, VPN boxes cluster, SWIFTNet Link and Hardware Security Modules (HSMs).
The connectivity pack is defined through three main areas of functionality.
You need to decide the type of connection you want. SWIFT offers you a wide range of connectivity products ranging from internet-based to permanent access lines for higher speed and reliability managed by four Network Partners.
We offer increasing levels of resilience up to a fully resilient 'no single point of failure' option.
To size the capacity of your access lines, you need to assess the average and peak traffic required to support your installation.
For each access port speed, SWIFT has calculated a throughput value in terms of Transactions Per Second (TPS). These throughput calculations are based on an expected Committed Data Rate (CDR) that is 70% of the nominal quoted bandwidth. Bursting up to 100% of nominal quoted bandwidth is assumed to be possible.
For Alliance Connect Silver and Gold, Network Partners will confirm directly to customers the exact CDR that is provided by them for a given quoted bandwidth, and also the maximum bursting capability (bandwidth and period). If a Network Partner provides a CDR that is above or below the expected 70% CDR, then throughput may be affected. If this is the case, consult with your Network Partner for more detailed throughput information.

(*) Kbps is an abbreviation of Kilobits per second. To convert bits into bytes, divide the number of bits by eight.
For more information on dimensioning your connectivity pack, see the Connectivity Packs guide, or contact your SWIFT account manager or your nearest SWIFT office.
If you require connectivity to SWIFTNet, you can decide to install a new configuration or to upgrade or relocate your existing one by yourself. You can also request the help from an accredited SWIFT Service Partner through the SWIFTNet Connectivity Implementation Service, and ask for reparatory and advisory services, implementation services, or a combination of both. To get an overview of the SWIFTNet connectivity implementation service, see the SWIFTNet Connectivity Implementation Service Overview.
