Manual operations: the Lite GUI
With a user friendly business-centred graphical user interface (GUI), you do not need to know the syntax of SWIFT message types (MTs), IBANs or Bank Identifier Codes (BICs).

Early 2010, Lite will extend its coverage of messages available through manual entry to business areas such as Funds and Securities Settlement.
Lite allows you to monitor the status of your transactions through automatic and reliable delivery notifications. Combined with SWIFT’s renowned security, guaranteed delivery and non-repudiation, you can rest assured that when a sent message is accepted by SWIFTNet, SWIFT will deliver it in a non-disputable way.
The browser interface’s Inbox-Outbox feature provides full visibility on the content and the status of all sent-received messages and files, whether originating from Lite’s browser graphical user interface or the AutoClient.
Lite’s manual graphical user interface supports multiple concurrent users.
A door to automation: the AutoClient
The AutoClient, a lightweight integration software, offers a low cost solution to send and receive messages and files to and from a business application and exchange them with SWIFT correspondents.
It is an optional component of Alliance Lite that enables the file input and output of any FIN message type (from MT 101 to MT 999) as well as FileAct files.
The AutoClient is installed on a standard Windows PC at your premises. It runs in the background. Therefore, all you need to start the AutoClient is a security token with its associated password that allows the encryption and the digital signature of your files.
Sending a file is easy and straight forward: you first prepare it on your back-office application and then drop it in a predefined directory. The AutoClient picks it up and sends it to the SWIFT Alliance Lite server.
The communication flows are based on a predefined directory structure
- The emission directory contains files that the AutoClient is due to transmit.
- The reception directory contains files that the AutoClient receives.
- The errors directory contains error reports generated by theAutoClient (FIN and FileAct).
- The archive directory contains files that the AutoClient has successfully sent.
Depending on the messaging service you want to use, the content of the files will be sent as MTs via FIN or as files via FileAct.
Files destined to be sent as individual MTs must be in Remote Job Entry (RJE) format, a simple text file format supported by many back-office applications.
Files destined to be sent via FileAct can be up to 20 MB and must be formatted following the specifications of the closed user group (CUG) or service provider, or as bilaterally agreed with your counterparty.
You can view the files imported through the AutoClient using the Lite screens. Optionally, you can approve or reject the files, individually or in bulk.
Alternatively, you can set up the AutoClient to approve messages automatically, without the need for operator intervention.
Rich functionality
Lite is much more than a message entry tool. Its rich functionality includes the following additional features.
Built-in BICPlusIBAN Directory, offering direct access to key reference data
- The complete list of Bank Identifier Codes (BIC) and Business Entity Identifiers (BEI). You can easily retrieve the BIC for any financial institution from its name or location.
- The automatic IBAN-to-BIC conversion: from an account’s IBAN number, Alliance Lite automatically derives the BIC code.
- The complete list of (domestic) clearing codes for over 60 countries, for example, Swiss SIC, German Bankleitzahl, UK Sort Codes, CHIPS Universal Identifiers, and ABA.
- Currency and country codes.
Support for FINCopy
- In manual mode, the entry and display of the FINCopy service code is available in the Lite screens for MT 103 and MT 202. Incoming MT 012-MT 019 can be linked to sent MT 103 or MT 202 directly on the Lite GUI.
- The AutoClient supports FINCopy for all message types.
Intraday multi-bank cash reporting
- For your accounts, Alliance Lite can automatically combine multiple status or statements messages (MT 940, MT 942, and MT 950) into comprehensive multi-bank cash reports.
- Lite can display immediate confirmations of debits or credits on one or more of your accounts based on the MT 900-MT 910 confirmation of debit-credit messages sent by your bank(s).
Comprehensive export functionality
You can view reports directly in your browser, using search and drill-down capabilities. Furthermore, you can export the information in different formats such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, CSV and PDF for further use, for example, in accounting systems.
Templates
A set of customer-defined templates allows you to enter frequently used payment instruction data only once, and re-use them in only one click.
Simple user administration
Each user has his personal token: user management is very easy thanks to Lite’s user-friendly screens.
Other functionality
- Long term archiving possibilities, and audit reports.
- Support for FIN Test and Training. FIN Test and Training enables you to simulate FIN messaging (input and output) in test mode.
Easy and direct access to SWIFT community
When ordering Lite, you automatically apply to become a SWIFT member and have access to the SWIFT’s community of more than 8,600 banking organisations, securities institutions and corporate customers in over 209 countries.
Security
Lite provides strong security thanks to Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), digital signatures, two-way authentication, and strong encryption.
All sensitive actions (such as sending a payment transaction) are digitally signed by tamper-proof hardware security tokens provided by SWIFT through two-way authentication:
- The digital signatures are calculated on the token using secret keys that never leave the hardware token.
- A token can only perform a signing operation if the user enters the password for that token.
On the transaction side, Lite supports the four-eyes approval process, where a second operator must approve a transaction before it is released to SWIFT. This approval can also be subject to customer-defined amount limits.
System requirements
To use Lite, the operator desktop system only requires a standard Internet Explorer on a Windows PC. SWIFT has qualified Lite on the following combinations:
|
Operating System
|
Browser
|
| Windows XP Professional SP2 | Internet Explorer 6.0 and 7.0 |
| Windows Vista | Internet Explorer 6.0 and 7.0 |
The connection to SWIFT’s central Alliance Lite infrastructure requires a standard internet connection.
Lite evolution and new functionality management
When using Lite with the graphical user interface, you automatically benefit from new functionality as they become available, without any action required at your side.
When using Lite with the AutoClient, you can decide when to install a new version of the AutoClient to benefit from the new functionality. This installation is a very easy and straight-forward task.
