Sibos veterans walking the corridor at the Vienna venue last year were intrigued to see an ever changing display of graphic representations of issues they may have just discussed in a panel setting. The SibosLab experience, which was introduced for the first time last year, uses graphic facilitation to encourage a collaborative approach to problem solving.
“At Sibos 2008 in Vienna, SibosLab was a pilot – an experiment to see whether Sibos participants would take 90-120 minutes out of their crowded schedules to collaborate, to not just to listen to new ideas, but to create some innovations of their own,” says Rosie Halfhead, Head of Stakeholder Relations, SWIFT. “We wanted to see whether we could make Sibos more interactive, more participatory, and more personally relevant. So we hosted a series of intense, innovative workshops on themes such as Web 2.0, challenges to the CEO, corporate social responsibility, and standards.”
According to Dan Newman, lead facilitator, SibosLab, the feedback received was overwhelmingly positive. We are confident that the pilot was a success,” he says, “so at Hong Kong, our 2009 SibosLab programme is more varied and more ambitious.”
“This year we are raising the bar and aiming for incisive outcomes”

While last year the focus was principally on creating effective interaction among SibosLab participants, explains Newman, “This year we are raising the bar and aiming for incisive outcomes: collective insights about how to make Sibos greener, about re-shaping the central debate at the heart of the standards community, about re-thinking SWIFT’s offerings, about allocating scarce resources, and, above all, about innovation.”
While SibosLabs are an integral part of Innotribe at Sibos, workshops will be taking place on other topics throughout the week, including greening Sibos, SWIFT 2015, standards coexistence and the evolving role of the chairperson in the SWIFT community.
