Register Main SWIFTNet Security Officers

Two Main Security Officers with online (via Local Registration Authority) and with offline (via Secure Channel) certificate management capabilities are required to manage PKI certificates. Security Officers are an authorised representative for all the communication with SWIFT about SWIFTNet security. They are responsible for the management of your institution’s PKI certificates. A representative of your human resources department or a public officer (for example, a notary) must confirm the identity of the Security Officer on the printed form.

For information on the Security Officer's role in the management of certificates, see the SWIFTNet Certificate Administration Guide and the SWIFTNet Service Description.

The registration includes the following steps:
The following steps must be completed separately by each Security Officer:

  • Step 1: The person that will register as Security Officer must first register for online services on www.swift.com and then receive access to the free service “Secure Channel” (to be approved by your swift.com administrator)
  • Step 2:  Make sure that you have a Hardware Security Module (HSMs) to store your Security Officers' certficates (HSMs can be ordered through http://www.swift.com/)
  • Step 3:  Complete and print the Security Officer Registration Form
  • Step 4: Complete the printed form with the following required information:
    • signatures;
    • Human Resources stamp;
    • identity document.
  • Step 5: Send the original to S.W.I.F.T. SCRL, Customer Security Management (CSM), Avenue Adèle 1, 1310 La Hulpe, Belgium.

The PKI registration will be activated only when both Security Officers have completed the registration process.

If registration is valid then your new Security Officers will receive PKI activation secrets and a Secure Code Card. With the activation secrets Security Officers can initiate the PKI tree via Local Registration Authority functionality. With the Secure Code Card they will be able to submit SWIFTNet offline interventions via the Secure Channel application.
