Many of our industry's most senior thought-leaders are preparing to take to the Sibos stage, attracted by what a delegate at last year's event called "the best conference in the world."
The conference opens on Monday 25 October with a welcome address by Charles Goodhart, a leading economist, a Professor at the London School of Economics and, previously, a member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee. His address will immediately dovetail into Big Issue Debate #1 which focuses on regulation. Martin Wolf, the Financial Times' Chief Economics correspondent will moderate a panel that includes Stephen Hester, CEO, RBS; Om Prakash Bhatt, Chairman, IBA & Chairman, State Bank of India; and Hans van der Noordaa, CEO, Banking Benelux, ING.
On Tuesday morning, Anna Edwards of CNBC will moderate Big Issue Debate #2, a discussion about how the industry should go about rebuilding trust - with its counterparts, with its clients, with governments and with the public at large. This is a question that
ABN AMRO's CEO Gerrit Zalm - who is also an ex-finance minister and deputy prime minister of the Dutch government - is perhaps uniquely placed to answer. He will be joined on stage by: author William Cohan; Markus Ruetimann, Group COO, Schroder Investment Management; and Naveed Sultan, Head of Global Transaction Services for EMEA, Citi.
Later that day, SWIFT's Chairman, Yawar Shah, and its CEO, Lázaro Campos will host the SWIFT plenary, an opportunity for delegates to get an insight into SWIFT2015, the cooperative's new five year strategy.
Wednesday sees Sibos tackle the theme of recovery: what does the industry need to do today to be ready to capitalise on the recovery when it comes? Tackling this crucial question in Big Issue Debate #3 , will be a group chaired by Jeremy Wilson, Chairman Global Councils BAFT-IFSA and Vice Chairman Barclays Bank. His panel will include: Marco Bolgiani, Head of Global Transaction Banking, UniCredit Bank; Peter Connolly, Group Head Global Transaction Banking Group, Wells Fargo; Karen Fawcett, Group Head of Transaction Banking, Standard Chartered; and Karen Peetz, CEO, Financial Markets and Treasury Services, BNY Mellon.
Complementing the plenaries, Sibos will also offer the opportunity for insights from three high-profile CEOs. These ‘In conversation with’ sessions are one-on-one interviews in front of a live audience:
As usual, the plenary and 'in conversation with' sessions are just the tent pole sessions in a conference that spans the full breadth of financial services. We have 12 streams of activity devoted to: asset servicing, banking , corporates, funds & investment management , innovation, payment market infrastructures, payments & cash management , securities market infrastructures, post-trade, standards, technology & operations, and trade & supply chain.
With that sort of calibre of speakers appearing on a programme of such breadth, it's no wonder that a delegate last year described Sibos as "always worth attending" and concluded that "it's probably the best conference in all aspects, year after year."
Join us in Amsterdam between 25 and 29 October 2010 to judge for yourself.
