Welcome to the 2012 African Regional Conference.
We have created the programme for this Regional Conference - taking place on 8-10 May in Kampala, Uganda – to reflect the role of regional bodies and groupings in Africa and there importance and effectiveness in promoting growth.
The East African Community (EAC) as an example, with Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi as current participants, will be discussed in terms of the benefits it brings such as creating a compelling and accessible marketplace and a stronger coherent voice through regional governmental co-operation and alignments in regulations. These features were not in place at this level just a few years ago.
The programme combines plenary sessions and interactive debates to address a number of key questions. How are Africa’s regional integration projects progressing? What are the key challenges and opportunities in the region’s securities markets? What are the key technology trends most impacting Africa’s financial markets? What is the state of the remittances business in Africa? And what are the key actions the community – and SWIFT – should be taking going forward to foster the region’s growth and boost international expansion?
In addition, SWIFT will demonstrate how we continue to deliver the highest levels of service to our communities in Africa through an update on the progress of our 2015 strategy, and a series of work sessions covering a range of our products and services – including business continuity, connectivity, the SWIFT Alliance portfolio, Consultancy Services, Sanctions Screening, Business Intelligence and 3SKey.
We hope you will join us at the African Regional Conference on 8-10 May. The event will present an unrivalled opportunity to hear first-hand the views of key figures from your region’s financial community about a range of issues that are critical for the development of Africa’s financial markets – and to your institution’s ability to turn today’s challenges into future opportunities.
We look forward to meeting you in Kampala.
