Welcome to your 2010 Middle East Regional Conference in Dubai.
The global financial crisis has imposed severe financial constraints on the financial industry globally. Changes in market conditions drive a very different economic climate which places emphasis on the importance on risk management and cost reduction. The pressure to remain profitable, to adopt sustainable business models are firmly on everyone’s agenda.
To this end, the theme for this year’s conference is “Managing risk and cost in today’s economy.”
With its accessible pools of liquidity and ambition to build independent economies of commodity revenues, the future holds both challenges and opportunities for the Middle East and Gulf region.
How can banks and financial institutions in the region position themselves to take advantage of the current financial landscape? What is the infrastructure footprint required to support regional strategies whilst effectively managing risk and cost. In light of the global credit crisis, how can the local community draw on their expertise and knowledge? What are the lessons that have been learnt and what are the challenges that have emerged?

In parallel, with the growing importance of the Middle East in global capital markets, financial centres like Dubai, Doha and Barhain have the ambition to become major financial centres. Can they provide what ‘global money’ demands? Will they expand at the expense of existing market giants? In the competition for capital, will they evolve into global players, regional hubs or niche participants?
These questions and more will be explored during the conference through an array of plenary and work sessions; resulting in critical dialogue and practical insights into how as a community we can address market challenges.
Join us at your regional conference in the Middle East. It is an opportunity for everyone to hear the views of key figures from the financial industry of your region on a series of issues that are highly relevant to the SWIFT community in the Middle East and Gulf countries.
We look forward to meeting you in Dubai.
