The signs are that Russia could be among the countries that recover most quickly from the crisis that has ripped through the global financial system. So far, the mood is cautiously optimistic, but the economic indicators are positive. The question is, how is Russia changing in anticipation of recovery?
Moscow, as the gateway to the Russian financial marketplace, now has an opportunity to steal a march on other centres still mired in the crisis, and as a consequence, Moscow’s goal of becoming a truly international financial centre looks more achievable than ever. Success in this endeavour is certainly more important than ever: the international investment that being a global financial centre will bring is crucial to maximise Russia’s future economic prosperity.

The theme for the first SWIFT Business Forum – “Transforming Moscow into an international financial centre: What will it take?” – is designed to create a forum in which to reflect on the opportunities Moscow has and the challenges it faces as it embarks on the road to establishing itself as an international financial centre. Speakers at the Business Forum will explore a range of topics related to the infrastructure required to support Moscow’s transformation into an international financial centre, including the need to improve the functioning of market infrastructures and the vital importance of cross-border co-operation by these institutions in both the securities and payments markets.
The discussions in Moscow will also explore the role of standardisation and international best practices in reassuring global market participants of the safe, secure and cost-effective state of Moscow’s infrastructure, in order to further attract capital flows and foreign investments.
The format of the conference is designed to provide you with practical insights into how standardisation and cooperation can support you in addressing the issues you face in this changing and challenging environment.
We look forward to meeting you in Moscow.
