At Sibos in Boston, more than 1,000 delegates had the privilege to listen to Professor Nicholas Negroponte, founder and CEO of One Laptop per Child (OLPC) at an exclusive breakfast meeting.

Negroponte's programme is a great initiative to help children around the world with "new opportunities to explore, experiment and express themselves".

With more than 7,000 participants from more than 100 countries, SWIFT is convinced that the Sibos community can make a difference for this project and is now investigating ways to do so.

Are you interested in participating?

In order to assess the extent to which our community would be willing to engage in this programme, your feedback is much appreciated*.

The "Give 1 Get 1": You buy two XO laptops. One is sent to empower a child to learn in a developing nation, and one is sent to your child at home.
Would your local community, your institution or yourselves be interested in participating either by contributing funds, by joining the "Give 1 Get 1" programme, or by any other means?

Please share your interest in the One Laptop per Child programme with us by sending an email at future@swift.com or by connecting to www.swiftcommunity.net to discuss this initiative in the "Sibos 2007 " community.

SWIFT will be in contact with you over the next few weeks with concrete proposals on how to participate in the programme to help all school-aged children in the developing world to engage effectively with their own personal laptop, networked to the world, so that they, their families and their communities can openly learn and learn about learning.

For more information, read the Sibos Issues article on Nicholas Negroponte’s presentation.

* Please note that at this time we are only asking you to express an interest and not a commitment.
